In the middle of a January deep freeze in Pittsburgh, I photographed my first wedding of the 2014 season. The city is in one of the coldest and snowiest winters in decades but the wedding must go on. No matter what time of the year in Pittsburgh, you can never predict the weather, so you have to plan, prepare and go with the flow of what mother nature sends our way. I spoke with my clients a few days before the wedding and encouraged them to brave the cold and deal with the snow to get a few great outside photographs. The ceremony was at Heinz Chapel with reception following at Pittsburgh Athletic Association, so we’d be in Oakland all day. My bride Sara was a great sport and braved the cold in her off the shoulder gown, while hiding Uggs underneath her dress for good traction and warmth. Garrett the groom had to deal with the slippery soles of a dress shoe and at times looked like a deer on a sheet of ice. We were able to get some great outdoor snow photos and classic backdropped, PAA, Cathedral and Heinz Chapel indoor shots. The wedding and reception turned out beautiful and went off without a hitch. I don’t think we could have had a better wedding in January in Pittsburgh with the big chill. Congrats Sara and Garrett, thanks for letting me be a part of your day. Have a look at a few of my favorite shots from the day.
